Wake Up, Kick Ass, Repeat

Well that was a bust

My summer race season is done. I was going to race Wolf Creek this weekend but since I have spent the majority of the last 5 days in bed with a fever it would be pretty pointless. I had high hopes for this season. My winter went well and I had good fitness coming into the spring. East Canyon went pretty well, and I felt good at the three MTB races I did. I was really looking forward to the June races, Sugarhouse, High Uintas, etc. Oh well they never happened for me. To be honest I have been kind of bored with the road scene lately, same faces, courses, arguments. Racing in the dirt was doing a lot for my burnout but I was still looking for a new challenge. So I got the wild idea to do an Xterra. I have always wanted to learn how to swim, in a former life I was a pretty good runner so why not? It has been fun being on the steep part of the learning curve again. Anyway through a combination of the worst flu I have ever had (and still have) and general work/life stuff I have not run in 2 weeks and have only been swimming and riding a handfull of times. I really want to race Xterra but at this point I am not sure what to do. I am on the downside of the flu (I hope) but still not 100%. I don’t want to overdue it and get sick again. Damn, life would be so much easier if I were a couch potato.

Some random thoughts:
A piece of paper is not a back up system. The worlds richest person is a Mexican? Another reason to never buy a Chrysler product. God hates poor kids.

Man up and suffer at Xterra, you made the effort to do it, so go do it, suffer like the rest of us mere mortals do.

Slowran says someone has to be pack filler, and he ought to know. Join the crowd at the back.

I agree with the doc, no shame in being pack filler, I have been it for years!

X-terra will be good trainging for CX season. And someone definitely needs to bring some of those “Harden the Fuck Up” bracelets into the US.

If you puke during the race, don’t let it fly, just swallow it back, so you don’t have to carry as much food up the climb…as far as the other end get a wine cork…
