The Condor and Eagle

Blog Category: Blog — Blogged by: Art on October 26, 2006 at 11:47 pm

Many of the indigenous cultures of Central and South America believe in “The Prophecy of the Condor and Eagle”.  The wording differs from culture to culture but the basic premise is this.  That we are entering a New Age.  It says that long ago human society took two different paths; the Condor (representing heart, intuition and mysticism) and the Eagle (representing the brain, rational and material).  The two paths would converge and the Eagle would drive the Condor to the brink of extinction.  Then a new era would begin, the Condor and Eagle would have the opportunity to reunite and fly the same sky.  If the Condor and Eagle accept the opportunity they would create an amazing offspring that has never been seen before.  A combination of indigenous knowledge and technology, a perfect balance.  We, as a species would evolve into a new level of consciousness.  Pretty heady stuff to be sure.

I think this is also possible on a personal level as well.  Most of us are Eagles most of the time, choosing to neglect the Condor.  Sometimes something will shock us into embracing the Condor.  An near death experience, illness either personally or to someone close, falling in love, it could be anything.  The point is try to find the balance.  The tagline on this page says “Listen to the voices in your head”.  I know that if I would follow my “gut” or intuition more I would be much better off.  I hope I can have the strength to follow my intuition more and not overthink everything.

I believe both those birds are endangered.. so I don’t think you’re going to be able to use them, paraphrasing or otherwise. Let’s use the majestic Pigeon and the heroic Seagull, who by the way, saved all those Utah ancestors by eating all them damn grasshoppers back in the day. God’s will man!

check out this crazy pigeon/eagle hybrid I saw. Pigeons are gross, by the way - they’re like flying rats with fleas.

Eh, I’m old enough to remember the Age of Aquarius and how it was going to change everything. It’s where the term “New Age Movement” came from!

Remember that stuff about a coming age of peace, “harmony and understanding, sympathy and trust abounding” and all that crap? And now Aquarius gives us the finger and says, “I got yer world peace right here, hippy.”

Yep, those were the days.

What an interesting metaphor for what seems like a conflict since times immemorable. Thomas Jefferson once wrote a letter where he gave perspectives of both his “head” and his “heart,” arguing from the sides of reason and emotion. In it he contends that “the art of life is the art of avoiding pain.” The strategy to avoid the pain is “to retire within ourselves, and to suffice for our own happiness.”

I think that we are walking a similar path, brother. I have turned down the proverbial volume of my emotions for so long so that I may avoid pain. I neglect them until they become an unbearable monster, and I derail myself. We need to convince ourselves that emotions are neither right nor wrong, but just data that our intelect can use to guide us in making the best decisions.
