Blast from the Past

So The Wolfe sends me an IM today asking me if I remember John Pecorelli. Hell yeah I do. He wrote a column for the school paper when I was in college. Every week he would rant about music, current events, hippies, etc. It was easily the best thing about that rag and he really pushed the envelope. I was amazed at the stuff they would print. I think he eventually got fired about something he wrote but I really don’t remember. So anyway he was always raving about this band called The Scientists. Finally I found one of their CD’s at Greywhale and oh man! Pecorelli’s reputation (in my mind anyway) as a man of unquestionable musical taste and vision was permanently secured and the genius of Kim Salmon was revealed to me that day. From the Scientists I got into The Beasts of Bourbon (as well as Tex Perkins and his assorted projects) and eventually Kim Salmon and The Surrealists(KSaTS). One of the best shows I ever got to see was KSaTS in Salt Lake City. Me and about 6 other people. My pal The Tone Man (another Kim Salmon freak) went and even got to talk to the man himself. He was amazed that anyone had ever heard of him. It is a shame that bands like Nickelback and Linkin Park sell out arenas and great talents like Kim Salmon are stuck touring in a crappy van playing pool halls. That is another topic entirely. I have never met Pecorelli but the dude has made a positive impact on me for which I will always be grateful. So anway it turns out Pecorelli has a site and is just as opinionated and angry as he was in the 80’s. Check it out.

New Pictures

I have posted pictures from the 666 Tour in the photo gallery. When we imported the other pictures to the new server it would not import the captions. Some day I will add new ones. I wonder what Ullrich is eating right now?

Sugarhouse Crit

Blog Category: Blog — Blogged by: Art on June 11, 2006 at 5:50 pm

Pretty much the same report as Sly. Round and around for an hour, field sprint. Some guy I have never seen before won and I think I got 15th which is actually a good result given my glacier like sprint. Today is the Downtown Crit which I am not doing, good luck to everyone who is

Today is not my day for electronics. Last night I fell asleep with my heart monitor on (not the strap, I am not that big a geek). When I woke up this morning it was on the floor with the casing smashed. No idea how that happened. On my ride this afternoon I am ripping down a hill and somehow my computer mount goes into my spokes tearing the sensor off. On a positive note The Wolfe has moved my site to a new server so hopefully the site being down is a thing of the past. Still not sure when I go to Texas yet soon I hope. I could use a change of scenery.

Is that all you got?

I have been dealing with a lot of painfull personal shit lately.  Business is good but my personal life is kind of a train wreck.  The one thing I would like to change most right now is my Mom’s health, everything else is secondary.  I wish I could take all the pain and bullshit she is dealing with and pile it on me. I can take it, she should not have to.  I am asking the universe, god, whatever to send it all my way if it will give my Mom some peace.

The Tour

Blog Category: Blog — Blogged by: Art on June 6, 2006 at 5:16 pm

The Tour was a lot of fun as usual. Started at Bar X. The Matts, V, Tom and me. A small but worthy crew. After the smoke drove us out we went to The Jackalope. Turns out the unwashed vegan bike messengers were ending their Alley Cat there. At the last Alley Cat Brian told me that The Republican was now banned (long story call me if you really wanna know) and they were in search of a new base of operations so I suggested The Jackalope. Good to know I am so influential. The Jackalope crew was playing nothing but Slayer. The Tour had ended at a record setting two bars. Anyway it is late and i don’t feel like writing anymore. Maybe tomorrow I wil post some pics.

Sleep

Blog Category: Blog — Blogged by: Art on June 3, 2006 at 8:05 pm

It is 1 am and I can’t sleep again, so here are some nonsensical(is that even a word?) ramblings: Do they install the “Free Tibet” stickers at the factory on all Toyota Prius’ or at the dealer? Why is there no basement at The Alamo? When will the whole DJ thing just go away? What will Tom Araya be doing on Tuesday? Should I get a Ducati or a Triumph? Humans should have a mating season, it would free up a lot of time. Who is buying all those damn Linkin Park cd’s? How do I get rid of the anti Kevorka? If you don’t wear white after Labor Day when do you start wearing it again? How far from the equator do you have to be before toilets start swirlling in opposite directions? I wonder what it is like to love someone who loves me? Were there vegan cavemen? Is cheesecake really proof of a pure evil force in the universe? Is there an original thought in Hollywood? Which RideTrash Mistress would win in a steel cage pillow fight? Do I have bad energy? DZ will wear yellow again this year. When is Gina Gershon gonna call? Boxers, boxer briefs, or commando? When will people realize that Will Ferell is not that funny? I miss MJ. What would The Dude do if he were me? I want to win ‘cross Nationals. Why the hell does my Mom have cancer again? How much $ would I need to retire in Belize? I wonder what ever happened to Virginia Witte, I hope she is happy. My friends are the greatest. The DMV is way better than RMR. What is that smell in my car? Is there a more pure musical genius than Tom Waits? What is he building in there? Medulla Oblongata.

Should have stayed in bed.

So I get completely blown off for my ride this morning. No worries, getting used to it. I head out and think Millcreek would be a good ride since the gate is still closed. It is nice to not have to worry about cars. I rode it as far as I could go before I hit snow (hey that rhymes) and head back down. I stop at Einsteins for a bagel sandwich and after eating I decide it was so fun I will do it again. At the mouth of the canyon I pass a girl on a MTB and say “Good morning” as I ride by. I stop at the porta john by the guard shack to take care of some business which allows her to get in front of me again. I pass her again and say “Hi again” she laughs. Up by the scout camp I get a flat. She passes me again just as completing my repair. I pass her again and say something like “I hope I don’t flat again”. This time she is silent. A little further my chain breaks. WTF? I have never broken a chain on my road bike. Luckily I had my multi tool with me. She passes me again, she does not look happy. I pass her again and say “My bike hates me today.” No response staring straight ahead. Up by Mill D I get another flat. Not good as I am out of tubes. I am riding loaner Reynolds carbon wheels worth about 2 grand, riding the rim is not an option so I wait and start asking people on road bikes for tubes or patches. So I am sitting there waiting and she rounds the corner and freaks out! She starts screaming calling me a psycho stalker and turns around back down the canyon. A few minutes later I get a tube from a guy and I am on my way. At the gate the sheriff is waiting for me asking me why I am harassing women in the canyon. You have to be kidding. So I show him my 2 flat tubes and all the grease on my hands. He turned out to be fairly cool and let me go. It is good to know that I give off that creepy guy in a raincoat vibe.

Imagine

Blog Category: Blog — Blogged by: Art on June 2, 2006 at 1:07 pm

Imagine a world where you could do business with a handshake and lawyers were not needed.  There probably is such a world in a parallel universe where school teachers make seven figure salaries, everyone rides a bike, and women tell you what they are really thinking.  What a dream.

Texas has been put off for at least a week now.  I guess I will be able to do the 666 Alley Cat now, that is good.  As for this weekend I am not sure.  Since I was anticipation sitting on my ass driving for the next three days I have ridden myself into the ground this week(including 3 hours today).  Not exactly the best plan for the State RR tomorrow.  If I do race it will be in the masters race.  Not because it is any easier, in fact I think it may be harder.  Those guys are killers.  No, it has more to do with the feed zones.  I learned the hard way at Bear Lake that I can’t carry enough water and food for 100 miles and given my schedule this week I am not sure I would make it even with a proper feed.  Then again I could just go fishing.  Could go either way at this point.

Holding Pattern

Blog Category: Blog — Blogged by: Art on June 2, 2006 at 5:41 am

I should be on the road to Dallas right now but I am not. The lawyers have gone and found a way to delay things again. Hopefully it will be straightened out today but who know, these guys do bill by the hour. If anyone has any local knowledge of place so see things to do etc. in Dallas, Houston, Corpus Christi or Austin please let me know.

Last night I got to chill by the Rock Stars pool. It was pretty sweet, I plan on making myself a nuisance there this summer. What the hell is going on with Sly these days? I see he tea bagged a pink guy yesterday? Truth is stranger than fiction.
